Salivary Hormones Test
Purpose of Test
The Diagnos-Techs Adrenal Salivary Adrenal Hormone Test is a noninvasive way to evaluate the effects of stress on your body. It looks at multiple different hormone and immune markers that may be affected by chronic stress and stress-related conditions. The adrenal glands secrete cortisol in a 24-hour cycle (circadian rhythm), with the highest amount released in the morning and the lowest amount released at night. Because of this the test will look at four different samples throughout the day to see if your body falls within that normal cortisol rhythm.
Certain situations such as stressful events, skipping or delaying meals, or sleep disruptions can cause the adrenals to secrete excess cortisol. Abnormal cortisol levels can have widespread effects throughout the body and may contribute to a wide range of health conditions, but treatment options are available if these abnormalities are detected. The Salivary Hormone Test can be helpful in those with:
- Chronic stress and stress-related health conditions
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Muscle and joint pain or weakness
- Blood sugar dysregulation
- Osteopenia or osteoporosis
- Insomnia, sleep disturbances or difficulty waking
- Poor memory or difficulty retaining information

No please do not stop any of your medications before collecting your sample. If you are taking hormones, whether it be in the form of drops, troches and pellets – please take these by swallowing them with water atleast 3-5 days prior to the test. On the day of the test, stop all hormones.
It is not required, though we can get a better baseline of where your body is at if you aren’t taking nutritional supplements. We usually recommend stopping any self-prescribed supplements for 4-7 days prior to the test.
Be patient, sometime each vile can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes to get enough saliva. To help with production you can view pictures of delicious food online, or you can take a lemon or a lime and smell it directly to help stimulate salivary secretion.
The vials should be preferably shipped out the next day, but they can last up to 3 days in the fridge.
You can either call our office, the laboratory number provided above or email the doctor you are working with.
